And welcome to my website of information and wonder.
I have been a professional actor / singer / moves-weller since 1990. And I was never supposed to be any of those things!
Once upon a time, an art student from rural Kentucky discovered he could sing.
In the spring of 1988, little Johnny Vessels was in the darkroom of the art department of Meade County High School--minding his own business and singing to himself--before long, there was a knock at the door. It was the school's chorus teacher. "Who the heck are you?! Get over here! Sing this!"
Since then, I have completed a degree in classical voice and have worked all over the country in plays, musicals, children's shows, operas, recitals, cabarets, classical concerts, musical revues, home movies, and impromptu grocery concerts (though those were neither solicited nor desired--but when Pat Benatar sings Love is a Battlefield, I'm obliged to help out).
I am the writer of an ever-growing number of shows centering around a fictional washed-up T.V. variety show hostess from the 1960's--Lillian Baxter.
And I'm a private voice and acting teacher. When I'm not entertaining the daylights out of audiences, I'm helping to populate the world with big and little entertainers ranging from professionals to enthusiasts to high school students.
I'm having the time of my life making the world just a pinch happier, and I owe it all to a nosy chorus teacher in Brandenburg, KY!
